1. Purpose
Honorary Membership constitutes the highest level of recognition granted by the Community. It is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary ability and sustained national or international acclaim in software engineering, technology, or digital innovation.
Admission is based solely on documented achievements of exceptional distinction, as evaluated by recognized experts in the field.
2. Nature of Membership
Honorary Membership is:
- Highly selective and merit-based
- Granted only to individuals with demonstrated excellence significantly above that of their peers
- Based on professional accomplishments, not participation, tenure, or financial contribution
Membership cannot be obtained through application alone and is not guaranteed by meeting minimum criteria.
3. Eligibility Standards
To be considered, candidates must demonstrate a sustained record of outstanding achievements and evidence of recognition beyond their immediate organization or local environment.
Qualifying evidence may include, but is not limited to:
- Original technical contributions of major significance (e.g., widely adopted systems, patents, or influential open-source work)
- Leadership in distinguished engineering teams or globally recognized technical communities
- Authorship of influential publications, or invited speaking engagements at reputable conferences
- Documented impact through mentorship or development of other professionals
- Receipt of nationally or internationally recognized awards or honors
- Contributions that have measurably advanced the state of the field
All evidence must be verifiable, documented, and attributable to the candidate.
4. Nomination Process
Honorary Membership is granted only through nomination.
- Candidates may not self-nominate
- Each nomination must be submitted by:
- At least two (2) established senior professionals, or
- One (1) member of the Advisory Board
Each nomination must include:
- Comprehensive CV or professional portfolio
- Detailed description of the candidate’s achievements and impact
- Minimum of two (2) independent letters of recommendation from recognized experts
5. Independent Evaluation
All nominations are reviewed by an independent Evaluation Committee.
The Committee:
- Consists of 3–7 experts with significant professional standing (typically 10+ years of experience)
- Includes at least one external reviewer not affiliated with the Community
- Operates under strict conflict-of-interest policies
6. Evaluation Principles
Evaluation is qualitative, evidence-based, and comparative, rather than mechanical.
The Committee assesses:
- The originality and significance of contributions
- The level of recognition by the broader professional community
- The impact and influence on the field
- The candidate’s standing relative to peers
- The sustainability of achievements over time
Meeting general criteria does not guarantee admission.
7. Decision Standard
Honorary Membership is granted only when there is clear consensus that the candidate meets a standard of distinction consistent with top professionals in the field.
- Approval requires at least a 70% supermajority vote
- The Committee may decline all candidates in any given cycle
8. Selectivity and Numerical Limits
To preserve the prestige and evidentiary value of the distinction:
- No more than 2–3 individuals may be admitted per year
- The total number of Honorary Members is strictly limited
- Admission frequency may be reduced or suspended if suitable candidates are not identified
9. Documentation and Recordkeeping
The Community maintains:
- Written records of all nominations and evaluations
- Documented justification for each decision
- Archived materials supporting the candidate’s qualifications
These records ensure transparency, consistency, and external verifiability.
10. Status and Role
Honorary Members:
- Are exempt from fees and operational obligations
- May serve as advisors, reviewers, or ambassadors
- Are recognized as individuals of distinguished professional standing
11. Revocation
Honorary Membership may be revoked if:
- The member is found to have engaged in serious ethical misconduct
- The member’s actions significantly damage the reputation of the Community
- Material information provided during evaluation is later determined to be false
